In a recent scam, cybercriminals demonstrated just how convincing AI fraud can be by faking an entire video call. In fact, the scammers were able to steal over 200 million Hong Kong dollars by emailing an employee and pretending to be their organization’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

    On February 13, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m. members of the Kingston Police Patrol Division responded to an alarm call at a business in the west end.

  • Individual arrested and charged with impaired driving following collision in Kingston’s west end

    On February 11, 2024, at approximately 12:05 a.m. the accused was operating a motor vehicle while travelling westbound on Bath Road towards Centennial Drive in Kingston’s west end. The accused attempted to turn northbound on Centennial Drive however did not negotiate the turn properly and ended up striking a pole in the centre median on the north side of the intersection.

    On February 7, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m. staff at Joyceville Institution observed drone activity in the area of the institution.

  • Individual arrested for dangerous driving and drug possession after leaving the scene of collision

    On February 7, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m. a collision, which involved three motor vehicles, occurred in downtown Kingston. The accused, who had struck the two other vehicles with their motor vehicle, proceeded to flee from the scene of the collision and no injuries were incurred.

This type of scam generally targets senior citizens by contacting them via telephone and informing them a member of their family, often a child or grandchild has been arrested, often following a supposed car accident.
