Multi-Agency Enforcement Initiative Targets Modified and Unsafe Vehicles

Officers from police services across Ontario joined forces on Friday, May 22, 2026, as part of a “Modified and Unsafe Vehicle Enforcement Course” hosted by the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

A total of 26 officers from across Ontario, including Kingston Police participated in the enforcement initiative in Kitchener following the completion of specialized training focused on identifying unsafe and improperly modified vehicles.

During a four-hour enforcement period, officers:

  • Stopped 42 vehicles
  • Laid 142 Highway Traffic Act charges
  • Seized 17 sets of licence plates for unfit vehicles
  • Charged two drivers for operating motor vehicles while under suspension
  • Arrested one individual who was wanted on an outstanding warrant

The course and enforcement initiative provide officers with specialized training and practical experience in identifying vehicle modifications and defects that may pose a risk to public safety.
