Kingston Police warn public of recent bank account scam
The Kingston Police would like to warn the public of a recent scam occurring within the province.
The scam involves fraudsters calling victims and claiming to be police officers. The victims are then told that their bank accounts were compromised and are being instructed to turn over debit cards, as well as Canadian and US funds to an individual who attends their home to retrieve the items in order to "protect their accounts".
In many cases fraudsters have been targeting an elderly demographic. Residents are reminded to verify requests before sending money or information to anyone, verify an individual’s identity using a known phone number or official contact, be cautious of ‘urgent’ requests, pause and confirm with the person they are speaking to or their organization directly, never give out personal information, items or money to unknown individuals.

The Kingston Police would like to thank their partners with the Ontario Provincial Police for providing this information to local law enforcement agencies.
Anyone who believes they may have been impacted by this scam is encouraged to report to their local law enforcement agency.
