Kingston Police Remind Public Not to Call 911 for Power Outage Updates
Kingston Police are aware of the widespread power outage currently affecting our city and surrounding areas. We recognize the significant impact this outage is having on residents and businesses, and emergency services continue to monitor the situation closely.
Residents are reminded not to call 911 for updates or information regarding the power outage. The 911 system must remain available for emergencies requiring immediate police, fire, or medical assistance.
In addition, due to the outage, a large number of traffic lights throughout the city are currently not functioning. Drivers are reminded that intersections with non-functioning traffic signals must be treated as four-way stops under Ontario traffic laws.
Motorists are required to:
- Come to a complete stop at affected intersections;
- Proceed only when it is safe to do so; and
- Exercise additional caution and patience while travelling.
Drivers should also be alert for pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles navigating these intersections.
We thank the public for their cooperation and patience as utility crews work to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.
