Kingston Police Host Second Annual Commercial Motor Vehicle Frontline Enforcement Course

Kingston Police hosted the second annual Ontario Provincial Commercial Vehicle Committee (OPCVC) Commercial Motor Vehicle Frontline Enforcement Course on August 25 and 26, bringing together frontline officers from across Eastern Ontario to strengthen commercial vehicle enforcement and roadside safety.

The two-day course was hosted and instructed by Kingston Police, with assistance from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). Fifteen officers from the Ottawa Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Brockville Police Service and Kingston Police participated in the training.

The course is designed to equip frontline police officers with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely identify, inspect and enforce legislation involving commercial motor vehicles during roadside stops. It also helps bridge the gap between specialized commercial vehicle enforcement and frontline policing, giving officers the tools and confidence to identify potential safety concerns during their regular duties.

As part of the practical component of the course, officers conducted 21 commercial motor vehicle inspections over the two days. Five vehicles were placed out of service due to major defects or because they did not meet North American safety standards.

The course supports ongoing efforts by police and transportation enforcement partners to improve commercial vehicle safety and enhance frontline enforcement capabilities across the province.
