Kingston Police Warn Residents About Door-to-Door Paving Scams
May 7, 2026
As warmer weather approaches, the Kingston Police are reminding residents to be cautious of door-to-door paving scams involving individuals offering discounted driveway paving services.
In these incidents, individuals approach homeowners claiming they are already completing work in the area and can offer a reduced cash price for driveway paving. Victims are often asked to pay up front before work begins. In many cases, the work is either left unfinished, completed with substandard materials, or results in large amounts of excavated asphalt and debris being abandoned at the property, sometimes obstructing the roadway.
Residents are reminded that fraudulent contractors may appear legitimate by using professional-looking websites, contracts, invoices, and advertising materials, so homeowners should independently verify businesses before agreeing to any work or making payments.
Police are urging residents to be cautious of:
- Contractors claiming they are working nearby and offering immediate services
- Contractors offering special pricing due to leftover materials
- Requests for large cash payments upfront
- Prices that appear unusually low or too good to be true
- High-pressure sales tactics requiring immediate decisions
- Individuals selling paving or contracting services door-to-door
Residents are encouraged to research contractors thoroughly, obtain written estimates, and avoid making advance cash payments for unsolicited services.
