One can apply for a background check through our online Kingston Police Information Check K-PIC.
You must currently reside within the Kingston Police jurisdiction, if you do not reside within the City of Kingston limits, your background check will not be completed!
You can use our K-PIC tool 24/7, no paperwork is required and you can monitor the status of your application, any time, through your account. All K-PIC results will be returned via the email provided in your application, it is recommended that you monitor your SPAM folder. You can pay for your application through a secure payment system, which accepts credit card and interact transactions.
In order to process your background check completely electronically, you MUST USE our E-ID Verifier process.
Starting September 15th, 2026, we will be offering 1-business day expedited background check service online through Triton. If you have applied prior to September 15th, you can still come in-person to have the background check expedited.
Please note the following for expedited checks:
- This service is dependent on volumes, we will complete the expedited checks as fast as we can, however, due to volume, there is the possibility that it will be more than one business day. Please also note that applying on weekends or holidays, your request will be started within the next business day.
- There are circumstances beyond the control of Kingston Police that lengthen the background check process, such as;
- Vulnerable Sector Flag (only applies to VSC applications)
- This is a Flag process that comes directly from the RCMP and requires fingerprinting. For flagged applicants, you must attend the station to complete the fingerprinting process and the results can take up to 4 weeks or more to come back from the RCMP. Once your results come back, the fingerprints are good for 3 years at Kingston Police, if you have been previously flagged and it has been more than 3 years, you will need to be re-printed.
*Refunds will not be given for expedited services as the application has been expedited over our normal wait time (You will receive your completed background check approximately 3 weeks faster).

- Some applications require us to send messages to another agency, at which we don’t have control over their response time to our messages. We try and complete these as fast as possible, however, the time it takes to get a response varies and is out of our control. (You will receive your completed background check approximately 3 weeks faster).

Apply In-Person
You can apply in person for a background check in-person at Kingston Police Headquarters at 705 Division St, during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., holidays excluded.
Processing time
Processing of police information checks may take several weeks (or longer in some exceptional cases). If you are trying to meet a deadline, we may be able to accelerate the completion of your check if you attend our station in person. However, this is dependent on many factors outside of our control and can only be determined if you attend the station in person to fill out your application.
Fees
Applicants have the ability to pay for their application through a secure payment system which accepts credit card and Interac transactions. The cost of a Police Information Check is $40.00. Forms of payment accepted at the police station are cash, debit and credit. The cost for an expedited Police Information Check is $80.00.
