Kingston Police Target High-Risk Driving Behaviours Over Victoria Day Long Weekend

The Kingston Police Traffic Safety Unit conducted a focused traffic enforcement initiative over the Victoria Day long weekend from May 15 to May 18, 2026, targeting the “Big 4” high-risk driving behaviours: impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving (including speeding and stunt driving), and improper seatbelt use.

The initiative was part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce collisions, injuries, and fatalities through proactive enforcement and public education.

Over the four-day period, officers issued a total of 129 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) and Part III Summons, with the majority of charges related to speeding, including one charge for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Officers also issued 34 warnings for various administrative offences.

Two drivers were charged with stunt driving and issued Part III Summons to attend court. Both individuals had their driver’s licenses automatically suspended for 30 days and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days in accordance with provincial legislation.

Officers also conducted two Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Level 1 inspections. One inspection resulted in a trailer being taken out of service after an unauthorized license plate was discovered. The driver was charged with multiple offences, including operating while under suspension, failing to surrender a pre-trip inspection report, and travelling at 73 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. The operator of the commercial motor vehicle was also issued five Provincial Offence Notices, totaling $1,530 in fines upon conviction.

Kingston Police reminds motorists that traffic enforcement is ongoing throughout the year and encourages all drivers to make safe, responsible choices every time they get behind the wheel.
