On September 7, 2024, members of the Kingston Police responded to a panic alarm activation at a shelter located in the area of Montreal Street and Joseph Street.

At approximately 10:05 p.m. the accused attended the intake area of a local shelter attempting to gain access to the shelter. The accused was advised by shelter staff that they would not be admitted into the shelter for the night.

The accused became upset with the staff member and began screaming in frustration. The accused then exited the shelter where they confronted a different staff member who happened to be outside at the time.

After a brief exchange the accused proceeded to assault the staff member by striking them in the face. A second staff member who attempted to intervene was also assaulted by the accused. Staff were able to activate the shelter’s panic alarm prompting police to respond.

Officers arrived at the shelter at 10:12 p.m. and arrested the accused without further incident.

One of the victims attended a local hospital where they were treated for their injuries and released. The second victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.

The 36-year-old accused of no fixed address is charged with two counts of assault and two counts of breach of probation. They were transported to Kingston Police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

The accused, who was bound by a probation order stemming from a previous assault charge attended bail court on September 8, 2024, and was released on bail by the court.
