CORE Unit Conducts Proactive Enforcement, Making Two Drug Trafficking Arrests

Members of the Kingston Police CORE (Community-Oriented Response and Enforcement) Unit made two separate arrests on June 26 as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and keep illegal substances out of the community.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., CORE Unit members were operating in an unmarked vehicle in the area of Montreal Street and Rideau Street when they observed a male known to police to have an outstanding warrant. The individual attempted to flee on a bicycle but was quickly stopped and placed under arrest. Following a search, officers located approximately 24.5 grams of fentanyl and a quantity of Canadian currency. The accused was transported to Kingston Police headquarters and held for bail.
A 34-year-old Kingston resident has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000
In a separate incident at approximately 12:50 p.m., CORE Unit members were in the area of Clergy Street and Princess Street when they observed an individual engaged in what appeared to be an exchange of an illegal substance. When approached by officers, the individual attempted to conceal several items in their clothing. The individual was placed under arrest, and a subsequent search resulted in the discovery of illegal substances, including Fentanyl, Dilaudid and Morphine.
The accused was transported to Kingston Police headquarters and held for bail.
A 40-year-old has been charged with:
- Three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000
These arrests highlight the important work of the CORE Unit in proactively identifying and disrupting drug-related activity in Kingston. Officers remain committed to targeting those involved in the trafficking of illegal substances, particularly dangerous drugs such as fentanyl, which continue to pose a significant risk to community safety and well-being.
