Kingston Police will not be participating in the federal Assault-Style Firearm Compensation Program (ASFCP)
February 13, 2026
After careful consideration and review, Kingston Police will not be participating in the federal Assault-Style Firearm Compensation Program (ASFCP). Participation in this federally administered program is voluntary for local police services, and Kingston Police will not be offering firearm collection or storage appointments under this initiative.
This decision is consistent with the positions expressed by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), both of which have identified concerns related to the program’s design, implementation, and potential impacts on local policing resources and public safety priorities.

At this time, our resources remain focused on public safety priorities, including investigating criminal firearm use, addressing violent and repeat offenders, and preventing firearm-related harm within our community. Kingston Police continues to prioritize initiatives and enforcement activities that have the greatest and most immediate impact on community safety.
Individuals who wish to participate in the ASFCP by declaring or turning in their firearms are encouraged to visit the Public Safety Canada website for information on the federal process and available options. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-safety-canada/campaigns/firearms-buyback.html
