Former KPCV Co-Ordinator and volunteer receives Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers

The Kingston Police are proud to recognize former Kingston Police Community Volunteer Co-Ordinator and current volunteer Sean Donohue. On Wednesday April 30, 2025, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Donohue received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. The medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of volunteers. They embody the caring country we aspire to build.

Sean Donohue joined the Kingston Police Community Volunteers in 1998 as a way of giving back to the community. After a couple of years, he was voted in as the Coordinator of the KPCV.

Sean remained as coordinator for 18 years. Over that time, he was very involved in expanding the volunteers into the group that is now. Everything from uniform improvements and procedural updates.

He is still an active member of the KPCV with 27 years of service to the community.

In 2019 Sean was nominated and selected to receive the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. This national award recognizes the volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields. Unfortunately, due to the Covid disease outbreak all award ceremonies that year had to be cancelled.

Congratulations on receiving this well-deserved award.
