Applications for Citizens Police Academy are Now Open!
April 10, 2026
Kingston Police is proud to announce the return of the highly successful Citizens Police Academy Program. This program provides opportunities for members of our community to learn about their local police service, with exposure to see first-hand what we do and how we do it.
The candidates will be given the opportunity to view numerous areas of the service and some of our community partners. The Academy will provide demonstrations, presentations, and voluntary participant interactions.
Topics may include:
- Kingston Police Organizational Structure
- Use of Force Training
- Traffic Services Demonstration
- Patrol Officer involvement to discuss day-to-day Policing
- Communications 911 Unit
- Criminal Investigations Division
- Forensic identification Unit
- Emergency Response Team
- Court Services/Crown Attorney
- Intelligence Branch
- Canine Demonstration
The goal of the Academy is to familiarize members of the public with Kingston Police practices. Please be mindful that this opportunity is volunteer-based and is not intended to train people to be Police Officers. We are seeking individuals who are at least 18 years of age and older who represent a wide range of ages, occupations, and reasons for participating. A Criminal Record check will also be required at no cost to the applicant. The course size is limited to 25 participants and will be assigned by a lottery system. We highly encourage people to register early due to limited space.
The Citizens Police Academy Program will run every Thursday evening, starting May 14, 2026, and will run for 6 weeks with the final date being June 18, 2026. Each session will commence from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (end time may fluctuate). We please ask that applicants review their schedules prior to applying to ensure they can attend all sessions.
The application deadline is May 6, 2026. For more information and to apply visit: https://www.kingstonpolice.ca/news-and-community/events-and-engagement/citizens-police-academy/
