Tractor trailer involved in collision on 401 offramp, driver charged with impaired driving

On February 4, 2024, at approximately 1:45 p.m. the accused was operating a tractor trailer on Highway 401 westbound through Kingston. The accused attempted to exit at the Highway 38 exit and while driving on the westbound offramp left the roadway on the west side of the off ramp and struck a metal tower. The tractor trailer came to rest facing south with the trailer partially blocking the off ramp and the cab stuck in the ditch.
Police attended the scene and the investigating officer made observations that the accused was impaired by alcohol. The accused was arrested at approximately 2:15 p.m. and transported to police headquarters where they provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in their system.
Dildar DHILLON, a 50-year-old individual from northwest of Toronto, was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, impaired operation of a conveyance while exceeding blood alcohol concentration, and two counts of breach of probation.
The accused was later released with a future court date. Their driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one-year suspension if convicted. The commercial motor vehicle was seized and impounded for 7 days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.
