Motorcyclist Charged with Dangerous Driving after Failing to Stop for Police

A 35-year-old Kingston man is facing charges of Dangerous Driving, Failing to Stop for Police and Possession of a Controlled Substance after he fled on a motorcycle at high speeds while travelling in the wrong direction.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on April 2, 2020, members of the Street Crime Unit were conducting surveillance of the accused, who is known to Kingston Police for various offences and was currently on criminal conditions. A red motorcycle in the accused’s vicinity near Sir John A. Macdonald Blvd had a licence plate that came back unattached. The accused, who is a known suspended driver, was then seen getting on and operating the motorcycle.

Officers attempted to safely stop the accused on the motorcycle while at a stop sign on Glengarry Rd but he accelerated and fled south on Sir John A. Macdonald Blvd in the northbound lanes, causing multiple vehicles to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Police did not initiate a pursuit due to the danger posed to the public but the accused’s driving actions, but he was located a short time later at a Day St address, still in possession of the motorcycle. He was arrested at a residence and a search of his person located over two grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine. He was transported to the police station and held overnight to attend a bail hearing the following day. The motorcycle was also seized.
