On March 23, 2024, at approximately 7:35 p.m. police responded to a weapon related offence that had just taken place in the area of Princess Street and Clergy Street in downtown Kingston.
Police learned that the victim and a friend had been walking on Princess Street and had observed the accused approaching them while waving a pointed implement in the air in an erratic motion. The accused then made a thrusting motion toward the victim, with what was now confirmed to be needle nose pliers, striking them forcefully in the arm.
This unprovoked attack did not injure the victim, who along with their friend was able to get away from the accused, however, it caused both of them to fear for their safety and question why this stranger committed the assault in the first place.
Officers located and arrested the accused in the area shortly after the assault. A search of the accused following the arrest revealed that they were in possession of needle nose pliers.
The accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend an upcoming bail hearing.
A 41-year-old local individual was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and two counts of breaching probation.
