Individual arrested and charged after uttering death threats and assaulting a police officer

On March 10, 2024, at approximately 12:15 p.m. police responded to an incident involving a disturbance at the Memorial Centre located at York Street and Alfred Street in downtown Kingston.
The accused had begun to cause a disturbance at this location by yelling profanities when asked by City of Kingston staff to leave the premises. The accused then verbally threatened to kill one of the staff members.
Police attended and located the accused still trespassing on the property. Police advised the accused that they were under arrest. At this time, and without provocation, the accused then assaulted the officer, causing physical injury.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. police were able to gain control of the accused, who continued to resist arrest. Once in custody, the accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing.
The officer who was assaulted attended the hospital for medical treatment and was later released.
James FAIRSERVICE, a 46-year-old local individual, was charged with assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assault with the intent to resist arrest, uttering threats to cause death, and causing a disturbance.
