Individual arrested after causing a collision, striking a building, and then leaving the scene

On February 28, 2024, at approximately 7:40 p.m. police received a report of a motor vehicle collision that had just occurred at the intersection of Queen Street and Barrie Street in downtown Kingston.

Police learned, prior to arrival, that the collision had involved two vehicles and that one of the cars had attempted to flee from the scene but instead had struck a business near the intersection. Witnesses observed the driver, and lone occupant, exit their vehicle and then walk away from the scene.

Both vehicles that were involved in the collision had been seriously damaged, however, no one had sustained any injuries. The accused, who had run a red light at the intersection and subsequently caused the collision, had fled from the scene without providing their name or address. This individual was last observed walking east down Queen Street.

Through further investigation police were able to locate the accused walking on Joseph Street. At approximately 8:30 p.m. the accused was arrested for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision without exchanging information. While being searched incident to arrest, the accused was found to be in possession of three knives, which contravened the conditions of a prior release order.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 30-year-old local individual was charged with leaving an accident scene while failing to stop and provide their name and address and failing to comply with a release order.
