Community Programs

The purpose of the Community Programs Officer (CPO) is to provide coordinated, community-based crime prevention initiatives to the Kingston Community but will focus on neighbourhoods, business, aging sector and risked based crime prevention.


The goal of the CPO Program is to circumvent a crime before it occurs. The definition guiding crime prevention in Ontario reads as follows:

The anticipation, recognition and appraisal of a crime risk and the actions taken – including the integratedcommunity leadership required – to remove or reduce it

Kingston Police is pleased to participate in the TRACE™ Program that is endorsed by the OACP (Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police). As of May 2015 members of the Kingston community at a local retailer or online can purchase a TRACE™ pen to mark their property.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is a design based crime prevention approach. CPTED can be applied to businesses, such as shopping malls and industrial/commercial parks, residential areas, schools, institutions, parks and playgrounds.

Our Bike Watch program is designed to raise the level of community awareness and participation in fighting bicycle theft through information and registration of bicycles online with the Kingston Police.

Safeguard Program

The Safeguard Program is a crime prevention program that will address break and enters within the community. This program will operate under two principles. The first is to reconnect with the victims of these crimes.  Re-establishing lines of communication with the victims will demonstrate to the victims and the community the Kingston Police commitment to solving crimes and creating a safer community.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch does not want you to spy on your neighbour. We want you to be concerned for the safety of your neighbourhood. Members are aware of their surroundings. They respond to suspicious activity by reporting it to the police.
