Trace™ Program

Kingston Police participate in the Trace program ( that is endorsed by the OACP (Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police).

The Trace program uses pens filled with thousands of tiny discs (about the size of a grain of sand). Each tiny disc holds a unique personal identification number (PIN) that links your property to you within a global database. The database can be accesses by Police when investigating suspected stolen property.

Signs indicating your property is protected by Trace may cause thieves to think twice about stealing from you. Adding to the deterrent, Trace provides detection equipment to stores and shops where thieves may try to unload stolen property.

Fifteen community second-hand stores and pawn shops will also be participating in the TRACE™ Program  by monitoring TRACE™ and won’t purchase or accept TRACE™ lost or stolen reported items unless the seller can provide proof of purchase or the seller removes the item form the TRACE™ lost and found listing.
