CRA Fraud Very Active, Please Alert Family and Friends
Release Date: June 21, 2018
Numerous Kingston residents continue to be scammed and lose money to well-known and very active Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) frauds. As a result the Kingston Police is appealing to the public to please talk to your family and friends and share this information through your social media accounts.
CRA frauds have many variants, but often involve a recorded message or email from an “officer” or some “CRA official”. The call or email threatens fines, lawsuits and even arrest if you do not respond immediately to resolve some sort of tax issue. The call is meant to intimidate and cause a panic reaction that prevents the victim from having time to realize it is a fraud.
Please, do not respond to random calls and/or emails. Take the time to contact CRA directly with any concerns.
