Police Respond to Report of Suspected Impaired Driver with Child in Car
A 44-year-old man from Bath was arrested for impaired driving with his young child in the vehicle.
On June 17, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m. the accused was seen getting into his vehicle with a young child in the downtown area. Police then received calls from multiple witnesses concerned about the accused sobriety and the operation of the vehicle.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. a patrol officer located the vehicle travelling westbound on Brock Street. The vehicle began to speed up and started making multiple land changes and turns. With the assistance of additional units the vehicle was brought to a safe stop and blocked in at the intersection of Bath Road and Portsmouth Avenue.
The accused was arrested for impaired driving. The child was upset but uninjured. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he refused to provide breath samples.
The accused was charged with impaired driving and fail to provide breath sample.
The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.
