Impaired Driver Caught after Driving onto Sidewalk in Front of Officer

A 64-year-old local man was arrested for driving impaired after driving up onto a sidewalk while a patrol officer was following him.
On November 12, 2017 at approximately 3:15 p.m. the accused was traveling northbound on Bayridge Drive. A patrol officer traveling in the same direction observed the accused swerving from side to side and crossing the center line multiple times before jumping the curb and running up on the sidewalk. The officer activated emergency lights and sirens stop the driver.
The accused was arrested for impaired driving and transported to police headquarters. The accused refused to provide breath samples. He was charged with impaired driving and fail to provide breath sample.
The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.
