Driver Runs Down Skateboarder on Parking Lot Sidewalk

A 29-year-old local man has been charged after he accelerated through a busy parking lot to run down a skateboarder on the sidewalk.
On June 7, 2018 at approximately 3:00 p.m. the victim was skateboarding on Weller Avenue near Compton Street, when the accused drove by yelling at him. The victim watched as the accused then made a U-turn and came back towards him. When the victim fled on foot the accused accelerated after him, driving through a busy strip mall parking lot and up onto the concrete sidewalk. The victim was struck by the vehicle and knocked to the ground, suffering minor injuries as a result. The accused then backed up and sped out of the parking lot.
The accused was not located at that time, but investigating officers learned he was an unlicensed driver. On June 9, 2018, officers located the accused at an address on Weller Avenue, he was arrested and his motor vehicle was seized.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, leave accident scene, and breach probation. The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive no licence.
