Auto Thief Caught after Damaging another Vehicle

A 30-year-old local woman was charged with auto theft after she ripped the door handle off a vehicle.
On June 8, 2018 at approximately 6:30 a.m. the accused ripped the door handle of a vehicle parked on Yonge Street and then went into a nearby residence. Officers responded and located the accused inside the residence. She was arrested for mischief, but during a search the officer found a set of keys to another vehicle. An investigation revealed the owner of the keys had lost them some time ago, and the previous evening his vehicle had been moved without his permission. When he located his vehicle, the owner found a bicycle and backpack in the back seat that belonged to the accused.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with possession of stolen property, theft over $5000, mischief, and breach probation.
