Release Date: March 11, 2019

On March 9, 2019 at approximately 6:47 a.m. police responded to a downtown Division Street residence in regards to a call of an attempted theft of a motor vehicle. The victim had been inside his residence and had started his vehicle automatically with the auto-start feature. Upon exiting his residence the victim found the male accused sitting in the front driver’s seat attempting to place the vehicle in gear. The male fled on foot and was located by police at approximately 7:21 a.m.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was later released on conditions with a future court date.

A 38-year-old local man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle.


Police are reminding the public to lock their car doors and either keep valuable items out of sight in the trunk or glove box or remove them from the vehicle entirely. These simple suggestions could help to reduce your risk of being a victim of theft.
