On April 12, 2019 the male accused became verbally abusive towards the female victim, who was one of his family members, in the victim’s apartment located in midtown Kingston. The accused had been staying with the victim, who was acting as his surety, since he had been released on probation in January 2019. The accused eventually left the victim’s residence however refused to return the key to her apartment when she requested it back.

On April 13, 2019 the victim returned to her residence at approximately 3:00 p.m. after being out for the day to find that the accused had returned and was now sleeping on her couch. She asked the accused to leave as he was no longer welcome at which time he pulled out a knife and threatened to stab her with it. The victim fled the apartment and police were contacted.

Police responded and at approximately 5:30 p.m. arrested the accused. He was subsequently transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

A 26-year-old local man was charged with assault with a weapon, utter threats, and two counts breach probation.
