On March 19, 2019 at approximately 1:37 p.m. the male accused was observed by a loss prevention officer acting suspiciously inside a store in Kingston’s west end. The accused was observed concealing merchandise in his coat before making his way to the front of the store. The accused proceeded to exit the store while at no time making any attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise. The loss prevention officer detained the accused and immediately contacted police.
On March 19, 2019 at 2:28 p.m. police attended and arrested the accused. Police searched the accused and discovered additional stolen merchandise as well as a small bag containing a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. Police also found that the accused was in possession of a large quantity of marihuana.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
A 23-year-old local man was charged with possession over 30 grams, possession of a controlled substance, theft under $5000, and breach probation.
