Release Date: April 15, 2019

On April 14, 2019 police learned that multiple incidents of domestic violence had occurred between the male accused and female victim. The two had been involved in a relationship for approximately a year and a half and police had already investigated previous incidents of domestic abuse by the accused.

Police learned that in March, 2019 the accused had made threats that he would kill the victim’s family members with a firearm. On April 3, 2019 the accused and victim had been engaged in an argument at which time the accused hit her in the chest knocking her backwards onto the couch. On April 12, 2019 the accused communicated with the victim several times, which violated terms of his probation order to abstain from communication with her.

On April 13, 2019 the victim had wished to leave the residence however the accused would not allow her to leave instead keeping her confined to a bedroom. The accused wedged a piece of wood under the door so it could not be opened and then assaulted her when she attempted to leave.

On April 14, 2019 the accused grabbed the victim by the throat and threatened to kill her by stabbing her in the neck.

On April 14, 2019 at approximately 9:30 p.m. police located the accused walking in the area of Montreal Street and Stephen Street. Police arrested the accused and transported him to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

A 17-year-old local male was charged with three counts assault, two counts utter threats, forcible confinement, and four counts breach probation.
