covid-19

Due to adjusting concerns and the state of emergency declared by the province of Ontario over the spread of COVID-19, the operating hours of the front desk are being reduced from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Kingston Police are also asking the public to avoid attending the front desk of the police station, located at 705 Division Street, unless absolutely necessary.

Access to the lobby will be restricted to two people at a time. Signage has been displayed for passive self-screening, utilizing hand sanitizer upon entry, and adhering to social distancing (1-2 metres apart) within the lobby.

Members of the community can still access many services via the Kingston Police website at www.kingstonpolice.ca or by calling the non-emergency number of 613-549-4660.

  • Filing a non-emergency police report:
    • Online reporting is available for 14 different categories OR
    • Contact the general number from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week at 613-549-4660 ext ‘0’. Outside of these posted hours please use our online reporting.
  • Background checks:
    • Online applications can still be processed.
    • Effective July 6, 2020 in person background checks have resumed at Kingston Police Headquarters. The records window is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Kingston Police would prefer that the public still use our Online background applications which can significantly reduce wait time. An online application will only require a member of the public to pick up their background check from police headquarters once it has been completed. An in person application could take over 45 minutes to fill out the required paperwork, pay for the application, and wait for the background check to be completed and released to the applicant.
    • Should you have any questions with respect to the on-line process please contact: k-pic@kingstonpolice.ca

    • If an applicant needs to be fingerprinted to complete a Vulnerable Sector check, electronic fingerprints will now be taken instead of ink fingerprints.
  • Collision Reporting Centre (CRC):
    • The CRC’s office is open and located in the lobby of 705 Division St. Its hours of operation have been reduced and are now Monday through Friday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.
    • Those involved in a collision where police are not required can attend the visitor parking lot at 705 Division St and first contact CRC personnel by calling 613-540-6653 to inquire about their services, if there has been any change in their operation, and whether they are required to enter the lobby.
    • Full information on the CRC can be found here.
  • Fingerprint appointments:
    • Court-appointed fingerprint dates have resumed at Kingston Police Headquarters.
  • Sign-in requirements:
    • Individuals required to sign-in at the front desk are still mandated to attend but can show their identification to staff through the glass partition.
  • Interview or Arrest
    • Those who have made arrangements with an investigator to attend the station for an interview or to surrender themselves relating to an outstanding charge or warrant will be asked to complete an Active Screening Checklist before entering police facilities. Depending on the risk factors people may be required to wear a provided surgical or procedure mask.

In an emergency always dial 9-1-1, but do not use it for general inquiries or to report a non-emergency. Communications personnel need to be available for priority calls for service to best serve the citizens of the City of Kingston.
