On November 14th, 2022 the Kingston Police responded to a call for assistance in the 2100-block of McKendry Road in Glenburnie. Upon arrival, police located a deceased male who has been identified in previous media releases as 88-year-old Jahzerah Berndt.

 

The Kingston Police Major Crime Unit began a homicide investigation, and received substantial assistance from members of the public and other law enforcement agencies. On November 17, 2022 members of the Kingston Police Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Section and Emergency Response Unit, executed a search warrant on the residence of a male in the 300-block of Front Street in Belleville. The individual has now been arrested and is charged in relation to the homicide investigation.

 

Daniel BERNDT

 

55-year-old Daniel BERNDT of Belleville, Ontario has been charged with the following:

  1. Second-degree murder,
  2. Carrying a weapon during the commission of an offence, and
  3. Breach of probation.

 

Investigators are also appealing to members of the public for additional assistance in tracking the whereabouts of a black, 2-door 2005 GMC Jimmy between November 12 and 13, 2022. It is believed this vehicle travelled from Belleville to Glenburnie and back at that time.
