Emergency Response Team

The Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was formed in 1981 and consisted of part-time members for approximately 20 years until the unit progressed to a full-time status within the Kingston Police.  At present the unit consists of 12 Constables and a team Sergeant in addition to alternate members deployed within uniform patrol.

 

In addition to Basic Tactical training, ERU members complete weekly training and ongoing specialty skill development within the unit.  Officers are expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness at all times and proficiency with all weapons and team equipment.

 

Officers work a regular schedule on patrol in addition to being available for call-outs 24/7 to assist with any high-risk calls including; barricaded persons, hostage takings, incidents involving weapons, K9 back-up, court security and missing person searches.
